Gülden Köktürk
Bio
I am a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Dokuz Eylul University, where I am passionate about developing interdisciplinary solutions that connect engineering, healthcare, sustainability, and nature-inspired design.
My research interests include signal and image processing, biomedical signal processing, wavelet theory, biomimicry, biodesign, and sustainable energy systems. I enjoy exploring how engineering can address real-world challenges by combining analytical methods with innovative and human-centered approaches.
As a founding member of the Turkish Biodesign Team (TBT), I have been actively involved in interdisciplinary research, educational activities, workshops, and innovation projects that bring together engineering, biology, medicine, and design. My research has resulted in peer-reviewed publications and collaborative projects spanning biomedical engineering, renewable energy technologies, photobioreactors, and biomimetic design.
Beyond research, I am committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of engineers. I believe that curiosity, creativity, and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential for developing technologies that make a meaningful contribution to society.
I believe that the most impactful innovations emerge where engineering, nature, and human needs intersect.

Education
I received my Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Dokuz Eylul University in 1998. My doctoral research, titled QRS Complex Detection Using Wavelet Analysis for Biomedical Applications, focused on the application of wavelet analysis to biomedical signal processing. I earned my M.Sc. in the same department in 1992 with a thesis on Speech Coding with Modified Hermite Transform, and my B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Dokuz Eylul University in 1987. Driven by a strong interest in interdisciplinary learning, I later completed a second bachelor's degree in History at Karabük University in 2017, broadening my academic perspective beyond engineering.
Employment
I am currently an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Dokuz Eylul University. Prior to joining the faculty, I served as a research assistant in the same department from 1988 to 1998, where I was actively involved in teaching, research, and academic projects while pursuing my graduate studies. Earlier in my career, I completed a professional internship in the Quality Control and Manufacturing Department at SANYO in İzmir in 1987, following a technical internship at Atatürk Industrial School in İzmir in 1985. These experiences provided a strong foundation for my academic career by combining practical engineering experience with research and education.
Editorial & Professional Service
Throughout my academic career, I have actively contributed to the scholarly community through editorial and peer-review activities. I served as Editor of the DEÜ Journal of Engineering Science from 2012 to 2016, following my role as Associate Editor from 1999 to 2012. I have also served on the editorial boards of several international journals, including Progress in Energy & Fuels, Signal & Image Processing: An International Journal (SIPIJ), American Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering, International Journal of Electrical and Electronic Science, and International Journal of Medical Imaging.
Since 2015, I have been a reviewer for the Annals of Biomedical Engineering and have reviewed manuscripts for numerous international and national journals in the fields of biomedical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, signal and image processing, energy systems, and health informatics. These include journals published by IEEE, Nature Portfolio, Elsevier, Wiley, Springer Nature, and other international publishers. In addition, I regularly serve as a reviewer for international scientific conferences, contributing to the evaluation of research across a broad range of interdisciplinary engineering topics.
